I leave for the airport with Andrew in about an hour. Our friend mohi is taking us. I got maybe 4 hours of sleep so I'm pretty braindead right now. Hopefully I can readjust my schedule quickly like I did coming here.
I'm pretty sure the first plane we're taking is a propeller plane, and the weather is still the rainy season here, so I'm going to be somewhat nervous. I've been listening to the snakes on a plane theme song haha.
I still can't believe it's all over. I mean, March seems like so long ago, but at the same time it seems like the blink of an eye. I'm very excited to see Caitlin again, I'm excited to see my friends/ play smash again, etc. but Nagoya has become my home. I've made tons of good friends and I'm very sad to leave because I feel like I'll probably never see many of them again. I've socially networked myself from this experience all over the world. Through Smash and DDR I'm able to stay anywhere in the US with someone for a night. Now, I could do it with most of the western countries.

I don't know what else to say. I'm coming home in July instead of December, so this feels really awkward, like I'm not actually leaving. Like I'll see everyone again tomorrow. I keep forgetting I'll be in the sky in a couple hours.

I get  to see Caitlin again is about 24 hours now and I can't wait. She's awesome and will be amazing to return to.

I just had the farewell party at oogiya tonight. It's so very sad. People were balling their eyes out everywhere.

I really sucks to keep having to uproot myself from my home. I'm very thankful that I have a good life everywhere. It's just sad when I have to move along  to a new place. This time I'm returning back to Cincinnati where I have an amazing girlfriend, whom I love very much, waiting for me. I cannot wait to see her.

I've made friends and connections literally all over the world. I could stay in virtually any country and have a place to stay the night somewhere. Cincinnati will always be home, but I really feel like I have a home in Nagoya too. Some things about Japan are amazing, and some things suck, but it's been an amazing experience and I don't even know how to put it in words.

I hope I can keep up with this language, and I hope I don't lose touch with too many of my friends. Until then, I'm going to appreciate every second of life on a second to second basis. I've had a great opportunity in Japan that I'm very grateful for, but I still have an amazing girlfriend and awesome friends back home in Cincinnati. Life is good no matter where I go, and that's an amazing thing that I'm truly grateful for.

Lol I've been to Paris, Madrid and Tokyo but never NYC [29 Jun 2009|09:24pm]
 This weekend:

Friday was a big nomi/tabehoudai hosted by Brandon and Ed. Almost everyone was there and it was a good time. I didn’t exactly drink much (because I’m pretty much over drinking) but it was cool to hang out with everyone. People were doing the Thriller dance on tables and stuff in tribute to Michael Jackson.

I ended up going to bed at like 3:30

Saturday

Ok, Our school was doing a “dodgbee” tournament. Dodgebee is this bastardization of what the rest of the world calls dodgeball, only with nerf Frisbees. No one exactly knew the rules of the game until after the tournament had started. Evidently, there are 10 on a team but one person starts on the “outfield”. The outfielders get to stand behind enemy lines and still throw the Frisbee at them. This means that the entire game is surrounded  by outfielders throwing the Frisbee back and forth until someone eventually gets out by buffing a catch (catching the Frisbee doesn’t eliminate the throwing player).

Long story short, we got up at 8 AM after many had been drinking all night to go 0-2 haha. That was interesting.

After dodgbee I met up with Richard to head to Tokyo. When I went to withdraw a couple hundred dollars (in yen of course), the 7 eleven said my card was invalid. Richard chucked this up to the atm  sometimes messing up, so we head to Nagoya anyway. So we get to Nagoya and can’t find another atm, I just decided to buy the shinkansen ticket with my actual credit card and we head to shin-yokohama.

Shinkansen was cool. It’s super expensive (95$ a pop with student discount). Nagoya-Shin Yokohama takes an hour and 45 minutes…. It’s 223 miles about. It didn’t seem THAT fast, considering I’ve gone faster than that in cars before.

Anyway, we arrive in Shin yokohama and head up to meet richard’s friend Darryl (whom we’re staying with and is getting married). He takes us back to his place to drop off our stuff and we head off the a game center in Machida after meeting up with some of his friends in an Irish pub (800 yen for a beer haha). They play jubeat and I chill out because I’m dead tired from having less than 8 hours of sleep in 2 days at that point.

Oh, we also tried to go to a 7 eleven in Machida and confirmed that my card is deemed invalid now (more on this later)

Sunday

We wake up around 10 and decide that we’re gonna see the big Gundam today, etc. So we all shower and leave the Apt. around noon. Tokyo transportation is expeennnnnsive. We stop at Daiba first to see the big Gundam, along with a great view of downtown Tokyo.

After Daiba we take the monorail across the river into the main Tokyo area. There are a LOT more foreigners in Tokyo (like 1/50) and the Japanese people there act really different toward foreigners. In Nagoya they just always seem marveled at you and stare. In Tokyo it seems like they’re just suffering through you and hate you.

Anyway, Richard and I deicide to go to harajuku while Darryl meets up with his fiancé in Shibuya. It was really rainy this day so the main street (takeshita) in Harajuku was just a sea/ canopy of umbrellas and rudeness. Richard and I just wandered around for a while until we decided to follow a crowd and see where it led. It ended up that it was a concert of some sort, but by seeing that only girls were going to the concert, we knew we didn’t give a shit about it. So we just wandered around harajuku park for a while (in the rain) until walking toward Shibuya to meet Darryl.

We walk to Shibuya and meet Darryl at a Taito station after collecting a couple Dr peppers for the road (they actually have it everywhere in Tokyo….along with mountain dew). We head toward the big crosswalk- you know the one, the one that they always show when talking about Japan in a documentary or something in order to prove how densely populated the country is…- and meet Darryl’s fiancée at the dog statue (the statue of the dog that waited for its owner forever, like Fry’s dog on futurama). We cross the street a couple times and go to this hamburger place where you have to hold a napkin up to protect yourself from splattering grease or they won’t put the plate down. I got garlic and cheese and couldn’t get near finishing it. The dish came with 2 cheese, 2 garlic hamburgers, rolls, baked potato, and greens- 1700 yen (17$ and change)….Toyko is EXPENSIVE. Darryl actually told us that it’s a rather cheap place for the area.

We head out of the place and I try to use the bathroom in the main giant building at the crosswalk area (the one with the starbucks haha). I wait in line just to see that the guy in front of me had dooked on the seat >.>. Anyway, the moral of this paragraph is that I pooped in that building.

After all this we just take a long train back to Machida and hang around there for a while. The rain stopped around this point so we could walk around and kind of sight see machida.

Today:

I woke up in Tokyo and caught a train to the Shinkansen, took that to Nagoya and then Nagoya to home (about 3 hours total in trains). I then watched Alf on TV dubbed over in Japanese (lol going great distances through technology in a short period of time but then watching alf [a 20 year old show] now).

Tokyo was fun but I wouldn’t want to live there. I missed Nagoya pretty much within a day of being to Tokyo. I saw Mt Fuji from the Shinkansen and it’s still frozen on top. It’s gonna be a bitch to climb haha.

The biggest peeve was that my card wasn’t working, making it impossible to withdraw money. This meant that I was in one of the most expensive places on the planet with less than 60$ total to spend. I owe Richard around 55$ after all this because he had to pay for my food and some transportation.

There was someone a couple months ago that called my bank and told them to cancel all credit cards/ debit cards and to redistribute the cards. Now, my cards have worked since then, but of COURSE the one time I’ve ever needed the ATM to work, it won’t. If this is because someone is messing with my account, I will be pissed.

I took SOME pictures, but I had low battery when I went to Tokyo. I planned to buy some on the way to Tokyo, but since I had NO MONEY, I couldn’t even take pictures of the trip. I’m just really grateful I got the chance to go/ see some sights and that Richard was such a pal and lent me some money.

I leave Nagoya in exactly 3 weeks now. I really love Nagoya and I’m going to be really sad to leave. I love the fuck out of America, don’t get me wrong, but Nagoya is 2nd home to me now. 1st home is with Caitlin =), but I consider myself to be from Nagoya. When people asked where I was from in Tokyo I just said “Nagoya”. This confused them for a bit but I eventually explained that I’m from ohio. I also speak Nagoya-ben to everyone because it’s kind of a trademark of where I’ve live and where I identify myself. I use Nagoya-ben whenever possible. It was fun speaking it to people in Tokyo and explaining what things meant to them.

Action-packed weekend for sure.

Soon to come, The beach (hopefully), climbing Mt Fuji.

wow, I really haven't updated in a long time. I don't really know what to type because so much happens and not much happens at the same time.

I saw Transformers 2 yesterday. The first one was a lot better, sadly.

I'm coming home in less than 30 days. It seems like time goes so fast, but so slow at the same time. It feels like I've been here for ages, but it's only been 3 months. I'm guessing it's from me missing Caitlin so much. It's just crazy to think I was going to be here for 270 days, but now I'm leaving in less than 30. I'm not exactly sad or happy about leaving- just like when I left. I want to leave really bad because I realllllllly love Caitlin- plus America has some plus sides that I miss. The down side is that I just feel like I could do so much more in this country with my time. I'm just kind of worried that I won't have another reason to come back to Japan because they aren't exactly foreigner-friendly about coming into the country. But that's really my only worry.

If it isn't obvious yet, I'm ecstatic about seeing Cait again. I can't wait to get back and get our own apartment together =).

my plans for this week:
Today: go to Sakae/ Osu and hang around
Tomorrow (Sunday): hopefully go to the beach
monday-thursday: hate the fuck out of the Japanese education system
Friday-Sunday/ monday: go to Tokyo with Richard!!!!!!! (YESSS)
A couple weeks from now (around July 4th): Climb Mt. Fuji (yeahhhhyuzzzz)

In other news: I met the best DDR player in the area for the first time. We were talking about how it's funny that we always see each other's  names and scores and stuff but it's weird we never met. The guy's name is Masa and he had a pretty big group of people with him. What ended up happening was the arcade got on the Pa and said they'd be closing in 30 minutes, so Masa comes up to me and says "well, since this is our last game, you wanna play together?" (In Japanese of course). I agreed and didn't think anything of it, but apparently everyone else in the arcade did. Everyone else took it as me dancing and then Masa dancing back, which means 'it's on'. Random people that didn't even play DDR watched our set and got hyped.
Masa picked sweet sweet <3 magic and beat me on it because I hadn't played it in forever. I picked AM3P challenge steps and beat him slightly. He picks Paranoia Respect and I beat him by around 5%. For the last song I picked Saber Wing Akira headshot mix and beat him by 6% or something. The people behind us gave out a couple gasps of surprise and then people started congratulating me- even ones that didn't play DDR. haha

That's just a fun little story. I wasn't taking the set seriously or anything, but it was funny scoring points for gaijin-san and getting thumbs up from random people walking home afterward.

Holy shit I'm still in Japan WTF [01 May 2009|06:44pm]
 Yup, it's Japan.

Lots and lots of Japanese tests and studying.

Here's a fun fact: Today is the gender-bender party at I-house. This sucks, because whenever I play the game "I have never" I have to drink whenever anyone says "I've never dress in drag".

This has been reminding me of that part from The Lion King when Timone says "what do you want me to do, dress in drag and do the hula?!"

AARRRRRRRE YA ACHIN? FOOOOOOOOR  SOME  BACON?!

Japan is fun, but I won't mind  going home at all. I've been away from Cate longer than I ever want to be again. It sucks. We're almost to the half way point though.

Oh, and I finally went to the Pokemon Center! Shit was so cash.

Pictures are all on Facebook.

,..k, gotta dress like a girl now.

Last night in America [11 Mar 2009|04:02pm]
I just had the most stressful past 3 days ever. Leaving a week and a half early in the middle of a quarter sucks. I've written about 30 pages all together of papers in the past couple days alone.

Anyway, I'm about to start moving and packing. My plane leaves around noon tomorrow. Don't forget everyone that I have a youtube account specifically for stuff that happens in japan. youtube.com/kelinjapan if you're interested.

See you guys in December!

 Hey guys, update time.

Yesterday was my birthday. On Friday, my smash friends peer pressured me into going to a local tournament in Morehead (lol name) Kentucky with them. I ended up going, getting up at 8 AM, and winning $180. They also had DDR there, so I played it once. DDR is like riding a bike- you never forget.

let's see, what else....

I'll be leaving for Japan on March 12th. I applied for my visa (spending $25 on shipping) but they returned it back to me because I filled it out in pencil. Which is pretty retarded. But I reapplied, so I have no idea when I'll be getting my passport back.

A bunch of people have been sending me birthday wishes. People I haven't talked to in a realllllly long time. It's really cool, so id you're one of them, thank you very much.

Cate is amazing. Her Chimi Chaungas are AWESOME. She's an awesome cook. She's also the best girlfriend ever.

So, all is good on the Western front as of now. I'm a pretty happy camper. I just can't believe I've got 6 months left in America this year.

sup everyone [23 Dec 2008|02:39pm]
I took Caitlin to the airport yesterday. She'll be gone until Tuesday :(.

I still have to do pretty much all of my Christmas shopping before tomorrow. I'm probably going  to Meijer after Rush hour.

It's been -10 with wind chill around here recently.

I've started playing Star Craft again.

Still playing Brawl. I'm getting really good.

My grades for the quarter were: A,  B+, B+, B-, and D+. Lol D+. Stupid early classes that I always end up skipping because I hate waking up.

Iris is cuter than any puppy. ever.

I'm still excited for Japan, but I'm really sad to leave because things are going so well around here recently. Cate is amazing and I don't want to leave her for a week, much less 9 months. And I'm really enjoying Smash, and where I'm at in the community now. Also, Steve lives a block and a half away, so I hang out with him pretty much every day.

LOL Bengals shut out the Browns. First time this year we've won 2 in a row, or shut out any one. The Bengals have a 3-11-1 record haha. Fuck Cleveland =)

Friday I found out that NUFS would accept my application a little late. So I spent this weekend getting everything ready for that.

other than that:

Sugoicon was awesome. It was a lot of fun hanging out with people that I rarely ever see any more. And a lot of  cool kids from the DDR community were there too.
I won the Brawl tournament and won some random anime 5-disc collection called Lost Universe. I also purchased a giant freaking Pichu. Aura tried to steal it, but I got it back.
Friday I drank with the Louisville kids. Saturday I drank with Bubby, Dennis, Ed, and Cauvin. I had my first long island iced tea! They're fucking amazing! I drank 2 in like 10 minutes..... Then later had some crazy margaritas spiked with Everclear. Ed and I went to the rave and danced around a lot. Dennis eventually showed up and danced too. A lot of  stuff happened, but I can't remember off the top of my head. Apparently I'm very funny when drunk.

Today:
Woke up a little hung over from not eating much all weekend, but drinking a lot.
Went to my mom's to get my passport (for NUFS application).  Mom wasn't there so, sall good
We then went to Walgreens and it took like an hour to get passport photos (also for NUFS)
Next was skyline. I had 4 cheese coneys.
We then came home and watched the Bengals game. WTF WE WON!!!! 1-8
Toward the end of the game, my girlfriend Caitlin got into town. She's here now.
We all went to Kroger for pizzas, drinks, and  power-steering fluid.
We ate foods. Watched Super Troopers. Played Guitar Hero. Had an awesome time. Got worried about Dennis and went up to UC to:
We all then went to see Obama at Nippert Stadium. He's a REALLY good speaker. And it's pretty cool to see a president IRL.

Bubby, Stephanie and Dennis just left. Now I'm finishing up my application for Japan and Caitlin is talking to her friend. What a great weekend. And I'm sure there's a bunch I skipped here. Today was especially epic. Look at that list of stuff, it's pretty jam packed with awesomeness.

 Midterm week was hectic.

I'm hoping to hear back from Ryan Meyer that NUFS accepted me for Spring. I HOPE SO FREAKING MUCH. I'm stupid for not going into that office sooner.

Halloween today. Meh

Sugoicon today! I'm not excited at all really, so hopefully this year will be better.

Trying to talk to Daru on Skype about JAPAN. Stupid 13 hour time difference haha. If it's 5 PM here, it's 6 AM there. And we go to school/ work in the middle of the day so it's hard to catch each other.

Caitlin gets here Sunday! <3

Oh, I started playing Melee again. It's just way too much fun to not play.

I should update about the camp out.

Every year my mom and I go to Hoosier National Forest to camp in memorial of her late best friend. This year I brought Bubby and Stephanie and the weather was absolutely perfect. Everything was amazing and great (other than my mom at all times). I took a couple pictures, but not many. I may post them some time, but I doubt it.

In other events: a text message conversation from today
Me: What would you do if I just showed up at your door tonight?
Cait: Well, my first action would be to kiss you and then to pack because there's no way I'm watching you drive off without me again.
:)
